Hall–Orange County–Email: marelee@alltel.net

Hall, (First Name Unknown) born : estimated 1865 – 1871

Young man, worked for the Railroad, was killed in a Railroad (Pick) Accident in around 1892-1894.

Married: Amelia Babcock in around 1890, she was the daughter of James Babcock.

1 Child : Clarence Hall.

Amelia Remarries around 1894 to a Mr. Gannon, remains in the New Burgh area. Although, we are not sure if Clarence lives with his mother and Mr. Gannon, or stays with his Grandparents, the Babcock’s, We do know that Grandpa Clarence Hall spoke fluent German. I believe the Hall grandparents must have been close, or a neighbor he spent time with spoke German.

Unknown if the Hall family was from Ireland or Germany. Both families were in the area at that time.

Clarence: grows up and marries (what we believe is a cousin)” Nellie Staples”, parent: Lucious Staples, both parents die, and is raised in a Catholic Orphanage ran by Scottish Nuns. Infant brother “Ira Staples” is adopted or taken in by Amelia Babcock Hall Gannon. Ira as an adult marries – one of the Gannon daughters.

We have the information on the Babcock Family, and our Staple family. The Hall family link is broken as long as we cannot identify Great Grandpa Hall.

WEAVER/ WEBER, John Jacob. Married Mary BROWN at Campbell Hall in 1858. He was working as a farm laborer there in the 1860 census while Mary, with their first child, John A. WEAVER, was working as a servant in another h/h also in the Town of Hamptonburgh. J. J. WEAVER “joined the Army” (I haven’t been able to track down the unit) in 1861 or 1862 and was never heard of after 1864. Mary went to Canada to stay with relatives and their second child, Joseph Henry, was baptized in Quebec in March of 1862. At some point, Mary returned to Orange County and was married to Joseph GRAFF or GROFF in 1868 (I don’t know where) and they are in the 1870 census as GROFT living in Goshen, with the older boy, while the younger one was raised in Canada by Mary’s sister. By 1875, they are in Newburgh where they stayed until Mary’s death in 1893. The younger son married in Canada and then brought his wife to live in Newburgh. The older son died in 1876 per Bible record, but I don’t know where.

So… Can anyone suggest where I might look for the marriage record to Joseph GR*FF? Where might I look for the death record for son John A. WEAVER? And is there any place that isn’t online (I’ve exhausted those!) where I might find out what unit John Jacob served in, assuming that he actually enlisted in Orange County under his own name? Email:joyweave@verizon.net

Clark/Denn–Orange County–Email: LDShoger@aol.com

Isaac Clark and Polly Denn were married probably between 1790-1800. They had several children, according to census lists (1800, 1810, 1820, 1830, 1840), but we only know of four children – Lewis Baldwin Clark, born 22 Feb 1826 Orange county, NY; Bersheba Ann Clark, born 31 Dec 1831 Otisville, Orange county, NY; Ellen C. Clark, born Nov 1834 Elmira, Orange county, NY; and Sally or Sarah Maria, born 1829 in Orange county, NY.

I would like to find death dates or cemetery listings of Isaac and Polly Clark. A marriage date and additional children’s names and such would be an added bonus.

Isaac died between 1830-1840 in Orange county, NY. It is believed he was a farmer. He was listed in the 1800, 1810, 1820 census living in Warwick township, Orange county, NY with his wife and children. He was listed in the 1830 census living in Deer Park township, Orange county, NY with his wife and children. The 1840 census lists Polly Clark living in Deer Park township, Orange county, NY with a young boy and two little girls – probably Lewis Baldwin Clark, Bersheba Ann Clark and Ellen C. Clark.

I have not found Polly listed in the 1850 NY census (Orange county) yet, so I do not know if she died prior to 1850 or not, but she was alive when the 1840 census was taken.

Bersheba Ann (Clark) Hitt’s death certificate states she was born in Otisville, Orange county, NY to Isaac Clark and Polly Denn.

Ellen C. (Clark) Loveless (online family tree records – genealogy.com) state she was born in Elmira, NY which I believe is in Orange county. I have not located her in the 1850 census.

She married Henry M. Loveless on November 2, 1853 at Wurtsboro, NY. By 1857, they had moved to Ripon, Fondulac county, Wisconsin.

Lewis Baldwin Clark’s obituary and an 1882 Floyd County, Iowa biographical write-up states he was born in Orange county, NY to Isaac Clark (whom died when Lewis was a young boy).

Lewis Baldwin Clark married Ann Amelia Ray in 1850. She died in 1853. They had two children – both died prior to 1857 when Lewis moved to Ripon, Fondulac county, Wisconsin with his sister and brother-in-law, Ellen C. and Henry Loveless. Lewis was a bricklayer by trade (as was his brother-in-law, Henry Loveless). It is presumed Lewis was married in Orange county and his wife and children died in Orange county. He is listed in the 1850 census living with John Nichols and family in Walkill township, Orange county, NY.

Bersheba Ann Clark married William Hitt around 1855. She was listed in the 1850 census living with Edward Lonnesburg and family in Thompson township, Sullivan county, NY. She is listed with her husband and family living in Thompson township, Sullivan county, NY in the 1870. In 1880, they were living in Delaware township, Westchester county, NY and in 1900, William and Bersheba were living in Thompson township, Sullivan county, NY.

Sally (Sarah) Maria Clark was married to Peter V. Osborn. They married on November 2, 1852 in Goshen by Rev. O.V. Amerman (according to this site). Peter and Sarah lived in Thompson township, Sullivan county and Haverstraw township, Rockland county, NY according to census lists. Peter was a civil war vet and is buried at Mount Repose Cemetery, Haverstraw, Rockland county, NY.

I can go in more depth with these four children but would like to know more about their parents and other siblings. According to census listings there should more sons and daughters of Isaac Clark and Polly Denn born in Orange county, NY.

Any information or help will be greatly appreciated. Thank-you so much for your time.

I am trying to help my grandmother find out as much as possible about her great grandparents. They lived in Newburgh from approx 1842-1932 or 1928. James Ostrander was a photographer in Newburgh. He married Ann Charlotte (Hill) Ostrander who immigrated here from scotland or ireland around 1842. My grandmother is 95 and “Grandmother Ostrander” was 97 at her death, so they knew and loved each other. Like most children she payed no attention to the talk of grown ups and is now afraid of loosing her family history. Any help you can provide would be much appreciated.
